OLYMPIA
Arriving at Olympia early enough to miss the crowds, we met our local guide, Niki. Niki told us that the Olympic games were held here for over 1000 years! She first showed us through the Olympia Archeological Museum where we saw many classical pieces. Then she walked us through the Sanctuary of Olympia. Niki explained the religious significance of Olympia and how people would gather every 4 years to participate or watch the Panhellenic Games. It was important in this time to not only keep the mind in tip-top shape but also the body. Sound familiar? I found it interesting that Olympic participants practiced and competed in the nude.
This is Niki, our informative local guide at Olympia. She is so old that she has pictures of how it used to be!!
We were very fortunate to be in Greece during the month of April. The Red Bud Trees in bloom made our photos much more picturesque and the sites even more visually appealing! The temperatures were very pleasant. It was a great time to be in Greece!

That David knows his stuff! Just as the crowds were thickening at Olympia we were leaving. David made arrangements for us to have lunch at a quaint little restaurant with pretty views out the back. Our lunch was totally vegetarian and it could not have tasted better! See photos below.
